Specifically, it seems to me that the GM LS1/LS2/LS6/LS7 engines are real candidates for high performance aircraft, say Legacy/LIV/LIVP. A gentleman named David Algie is designing/building a pretty amazing aircraft named the LP1, go to: http://members.iquest.net/~aca/photos.htm . He's an Indy car designer/fabricator and is using an LS1 in his aircraft. He has designed and built his own beautiful looking carbon fiber PSRU for the LP1, see photos. I believe there are other Lancair folks who are in the process of installing V8s in their aircraft. Liquid cooling, aluminum block/heads, good HP and BSFC figures, purchase/overhaul price is awesome. Lot of really good things going for it, yet not much heard about. Do you know or does anybody know what is going on with that scene? How's about a Legacy powered by a 500hp LS7 (and that's normally aspirated)? Rick Schrameck, check your rear view mirror....;-)! Check out http://popularhotrodding.com/tech/0504phr_ls7/ . Seems like an ideal combination, but, are there just insurmountable problems with adapting a V8 automobile engine to aircraft service? If not, does anyone know who is developing an engine like this for Lancairs? Will
