You're right to be very careful and thoughtful at this point. You will be
setting up, not only your header tank clearance, but your canopy clearance and
knee clearance too. I think 12 inches is too tight. I'll measure my clearance
tonight but 14 inches is better I think. Also, your audio panel (presuming you
put one it) can be the next problem point with the dust cover and ultimately the
canopy glass. This may cause you to want to lower the panel or move it
rearward. Both of these directions take away from knee clearance. I suggest
fitting some foam in the radio stack area to represent your radios, connectors
and wiring. Then position the panel to simultaneously solve the three clearance
problems (header tank, canopy/dust cover, knees). Think through seating
position (seat back and foam thickness).
