A) complexity, that is a mixing box to deflect ailerons down with flaps. More things to go wrong, more weight, more expense. B) aileron chord is only 0.16C, very narrow chord, not a huge gain. C) only 14 degrees of down aileron to begin with. Limited space in the wing trailing edge cove for extending down aileron travel, possible to do by removing aileron balance weights to the 100% unbalanced condition but don't think that's so desirable! D) then a consequent lack of aileron power with reduced aileron deflection remaining for roll control. When you need it most at slow speeds in wake turbulence. Ask Jim H. E) regain aileron roll control power with spoilers?....reducing wing lift and defeating the original purpose of installing flaperons! F) See page 43, "M.A.D." Vol I, second para. "the appeal of using flaperons is very high for the amateur. However, during landing when the flaperons are deflected for landing the need for lateral control is paramount and you will find you have run out of aileron control since your ailerons are being used as flaps.
