Don,

I have a Reiff pan heater as well as the cylinder heating bands.  I have been very happy with its performance.  I can get about 60 degrees difference between ambient and engine temperature.  I use cowl plugs and a blanket on top of the cowl.

I get a little moisture around the stick but I figure it does less damage than a 15 degree cold start.  I just make sure that I fly for at least half an hour with the oil temperature above 190.  That should get rid of the moisture.

Others may have different experiences but I wouldn't change.

Subject: [LML] Oil sump heater

Hello All,
Would like to hear any  opinions about the Reiff Hotstrip oil sump heater.
I live in Northern Mi. where the temp. is very cold alot of the time. I hear
there good, from a friend who has one on his Piper, but he mentioned it does
evaporate the oil a little.
Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks, Don Grabiel ES, N722B
