I've seen them in the cowl inlets like Bryan's. I believe Skip Slater has them in his inlets. We are planning one in each of ours. The light is very similar to the ones that Tim Ong developed and they sell at Lancair - machined aluminum housings.

I put mine in the R/H cowl inlet. They work fine, easy to wire, are
easy to maintain, and haven't had any effect on engine cooling. I have
operated the engine with and without them installed. I did reinforce
the baffling to handle the extra weight with an aluminum stringer and
lower support.
