I saw an ES built by Chuck Brenner.  The aircraft is located in Denver I think.  It had wheel pants with landing lights, one in each pant.  The only thing I noticed was the wheel pants were "flatter" on the front, instead of the original pointed nose.  I'm sure that affected the aerodynamics a bit.  I don't know how well it worked or the reliability.
