Re Scott's post of 12/21/04 I was fascinated to see a figure of 25lb given as a test parmeter to determine the effectiveness of the gas spring used for emergency extension of the nose gear.

I presume that this is a calculated figure using the lengths of the mving parts of the mechanism related to the 100lb gas spring.  Could Scott tell us where this figure came from and whp originally devised it.  I hafd been fussing over the item on the annual which calls for a test to verify the gas spring and had not as yet come up with an in situ test. takung the gas spring off to test it is a pain.

Incidentally I have had the pressure on both sides syndrome.  So far only when I have had the plane on jacks.  Eventually it bleeds off.  All pressures are to specification.

The other thing that has happened to me is that the RH inner gear door is slow to close and the propwash appears to be bending the actuating cylinder rod end and also twisting the hinge and causing it to crack at the after end.  It works fine in the barn!!  I cannot find a reason for it other than the pressure does not peak and shut off until the door is closed.  I have HP and LP pressure gauges.  Right now I fly with the door off and I do not notice any difference in IAS.  Spitfires had no inner doors!

I am going to take my pump off and have it overhauled
