It was a great deal of work and in my view, definitely not worth the effort. All those lights are good for is recognition flashers at night. Also, because of the small vertical clearance out there, you're pretty limited in what kind of lights you can use and none of the ones I've tried are worth a damn. Eugene Long put some kind of HID lights in his ES in a similar location to mine - I'd be interested in hearing how his work. I ended up having to put the factory light kit in my cowl to fill in the hole in the light pattern and it works just fine. I've seen other ES-s and IV's with small halogen lights mounted inside the cowl inlets that seem to work well. I have no idea how the wheel pant mounted lights work, but at least they're closer to the center of the plane and would offer a better light pattern than wingtip lights. What I's worry about is the fact that the wheel pants take some pretty good jolts on landing and that can't be good for the filiments in the lights. Skip Slater N540ES
