"I have an O360 F1A6 equipped with a H6 carbureator
-intake looking to the firewall"
I think most guys buy a modified sump with a forward facing inlet or have
their existing sumps changed to this configuration. Changing the sump seems
to be quite a job and you get to live with a cast aluminum sump that has
been welded on. Not too sure how safe that is???
Another solution is to buy a sump and induction pipes from an O-360-A1A
(other models might fit too), this is an updraft sump. You will need the
large belly scoop and it is a great excuse for buying an Ellison throttle
body as your existing carb won´t fit. 150 $ should get you a long
way regarding the sump, the Ellison TBI will set you back another 1800
$ or so.
You have to decide which way to go before you order your exhaust
system, I did not so I had to go the Ellison way ( I could have just bought
a MA 4-5, I know, but my wife don´t! ).
No matter what you decide, there is no excuse for not spending a couple
of hours smoothening the induction system, especially the sump. I have
a scientifically developed tool for this, you can have it if you like.
