Ditto Bob Pastusek's comments. I have been flying behind the Chelton system now for 2  years and 400 hours and have been generally impressed by its features BUT have also seen the weaknesses of an all glass panel. It is awesome for flying IFR, maintaining situational awareness in mountainous terrain, etc.

However I have seen the panel(s) go blank (more than once) and for different reasons-- once while IMC over Jackson Hole; had a TIT failure wipe out all engine/ air data; seen screwy AHARS wanderings; and the like-- all without any aural warning or text failure mode annunciated.

As Hamid has stated here before-- make certain you have a good mechanical backup system and know how to use it. I have seen some truly badly planned panels that I would not attempt IMC with because of the failure of the builder/ pilot failed to account for a backup in the event of an EFIS failure. Most, if not all certified EFIS systems out there now have mechanical backups. If you put all your eggs in the EFIS basket be prepared to making omelets.
