Are you at all concerned about heat build-up within the lenses from the 75
watt bulbs? I have you left them on in ground ops?
I have left the lights on for 5 minutes and temperatures are warm, but still quite some way from temps that would deform the plastic lens. I understand that the GIV jet has a 4? minute limit on ground ops, which may not be that uncommon.
Your experience of overheating and deformed lenses with extended ground use of the position lights is interesting. However, as you can see in the pictures, my landing lights are within the entire cavity of the wingtip, with the entire surface area/airspace of the tip (broadly speaking) to dissapate the heat. While my installation puts out multiples of heat to yours, it also has multiples of additional airspace/surface area to dissapate the heat.
Someone with more electrical expertise could probably devise a safety circuit using a temperature cutoff, airspeed based circuit with a delay, etc. I will try and do more testing this weekend with more extended ground ops.
