That's the other problem. My home airport's lighting leaves a LOT to be
desired - trees at both ends and not much in the way of lights. Larger/well
lit/concrete (vs. asphalt) airports are a WHOLE lot easier.

When I was taught to fly and training for my night rating, I was taught to
land without the landing/taxi lights being turned on. Learned to judge
position by looking well down the runway and 'settling down' between the
runway edge lights by using the runway edge lighting well ahead of me. I do
use lights, but primarily for the 'be seen' reason.
