Before this mod, instrument lighting reflections on the canopy had been very bothersome during night flight.  I knew that the glare shield would have to extend aft a great deal to block them out and a fixed installation would be in the way during entry/exit and a pain during the day.  The solution was an adjustable glare shield.  One piece added to the original would not work because it needed to extend 12 inches aft of the instrument panel face and still retract completely to be out of the way.

I took the original, which barely extended an inch aft of the instrument panel face, and lengthened it to reach 6 inches aft.  This was not so big as to interfer with entry/exit but gave a large enough base that the moveable piece could be added to it.  Then I put plastic over it and used it as a "mold" to make the top piece the same shape.  This was large enough that it extends the glare shield an additional 6 inches and is small enough to retract all the way and not run into the canopy at the front.  As you can see, it is held together by AN-3 bolts, fender washers and elastic stop nuts.  This has completely blocked out the instrument lighting reflections on the canopy.  For night flights, you simply climb in as usual, and before you take off, just slide the extension aft.  To exit, you just slide it forward and you are done.

Attached are several shots of this adjustable glare shield. Tom Thibault
