I would start up the plane, taxi out to the runway, take-off, and go flying - Everything fine. When it was time to land, I'd come into the pattern and lower the gear, and the pump would start cycling every 6-7 SECS ! This would last for a good 30 secs or so. It usually would stop by the time I was over the numbers. For the life of me I could NOT find the reason. I rebuilt all 3 retract cylinders, replaced 2 hoses, and EVEN sent my pump back to Oildyne. (THEY rebuilt it for free trying to track down MY problem - There's a class act !). It came down to the piece of crap called the dump valve ! What happens is that when the plane is on the ground, 500psi is ALWAYS present on one side of the ball valve, and 0 psi is on the other side. 24 hrs/day...7 days/week (assuming you have no leaks). When you retract the gear, the 500 psi goes to 0, and the 0 side goes to 1200 psi. In my case, the Teflon seat on the low pressure side deformed, and was leaking pressure to the 0 pressure side. Replacing the ball valve was my answer, and I suspect it will be yours and alot of other builders too. If you wish to test this hypothesis, remove your ball valve, and open it up. You may find the deformation. You can also go to your local hardware store - plumbing section - and buy another valve. Exactly like the cheap thing we got in the kit. They will be rated as 600 WOG, which stands for Water,Oil,Gas. I have attempted to get Neico to admit that they were in error for ever having supplied this part with our kits, and to replace all that were shipped. Haha. We all know that outcome. They will never take responsibility for it. Neico has found a replacement valve - for $15 - which they will sell to any builder who requests it. The new valve is rated for 1500 psi WOG. I suggested that they credit the builders the $4.60 we've already paid for the initial valve. Again, haha....take a guess? You should be able to contact Vern for the new valve... I've already counted about 7 builders who have had problems with this valve, and as more planes get completed, I'm sure there will be quite a few more problems and complaints. For those builders that are not done yet...keep this post in mind. The problem will not show up for a while...but chances are it will eventually.
