HOW SWEET IT IS! to be back in the air again. I have a problem now that I sure at least one of you flyers out there can give me the answer to. With the gear switch in the Down position and the gear breaker On, the hydraulic pump cycles On and Off intermittently. I have tried all the easy fixes without success. The fluid level is high. I have had the bird on jacks and cycled the gear up and down at least ten times. Occasionally, the problem will seem to go away and everything will be normal until I taxi out for take-off. The On-Off cycling will then start again. I know that some of you have had problems with the dump valve leaking but I don't think that this is my problem because with the gear in the Up position there is no unwanted cycling. I tried adjusting the low pressure switch to a higher pressure today. That only seemed to make the problem worse. Where the cycling was at 2 minute intervals, now it's about 30 seconds. If I had a pressure gage with the required range I could plumb it on to low pressure hydraulics and see if the pressure is actually droping during the cycling interval or if the pressure switch is intermittent. If the pressure is droping, it looks like I'm in for a new hydraulic pump. Does anyone know a good source for pressure gages? Has anyone had this problem before? Bob Jude N65BJ [Reprinted from LML, 12/7/98: "I found a company in Addison, IL called Kodiak Controls who has 1000 and 2000 psi gages, 1-1/2" diameter, white face with black numbering, all stainless steel with a u-clamp and a rear center 1/8npt fitting for $21.70/ea. The part numbers are 7217U-1.5-8-1000 and 7217U-1.5-8-2000. You can reach them at 630-629-3733." The gages are a bit more expensive now, around $25 if memory serves, but they're really nice and should do the job.
