I use a straight O320, 160hp, and a fixed pitch prop. Cruise using other hp should be proportional to cuberoot of power increase, i.e. 180hp should give the advertised cruise. You can throttle back and get 193KTAS with an O-360 and the same fuel flow as an O-320. Climb performance differs more. Increasing hp by 12% gives more than 12% better climbrate. I get 1200 fpm at gross and 3500ft and 120 KIAS, which corresponds to 1400 fpm at SL. Keeping the weight down does not only allow you to bring a fullsize fying buddy, it also improves your performance quite a bit. About the MK2 tail, I have flown both tails, and I cant say there is any noticeable difference on the perceived stability.
