I think there are at least 2 noteworthy points that should be relayed to the
list regarding the Dynon.
1 - It is inexpensive enough, that one can be completely IFR legal, and have
the Dynon onboard anyway. I am installing one of my plane, and as is the case
with EVERY EFIS/PDF/MFD, I have, as required/requested, appropriate back up
instruments in case the Dynon should fail. In reality, I could take the Dynon
out of my panel and still be IFR legal.
2 - I also had similar concerns as expressed by Richard and also found the
quote from Dynon's own web page. With a little leg work, I was able to speak
with the VP of Marketing/Engineering and the President at Dynon. They
indicated to me that the Web page was over 10 years old and that this was the
same unit that had just left the State of Nevada and gone into space.
Although not certified, the unit that is referred to in the frequently asked
questions page of the Dynon web site, to my understanding, has been upgraded
many times.
This is again not to say that I would install any electronic display without
a backup.
