Here is how I solved the
problem of the bearings spinning on the axle. It happens on the nose wheel
too.
Make a spacer which goes
between the bearings. Now when you tighten the nut, the bearing inner
races are
clamped together against
the spacer without increasing preload on the bearings. This
allows the nut to be tight enough to keep the inner races from
moving. It takes some cut and try to get the right length, but
this completely solved the problem.
This spacer is available
from Grove aircraft, but I don't know if the dimensions are right for Matco
brakes.
