Here are the updated summary document (MS Word) and graphs (MS Excel).
If you would like them in a different file format, e-mail me at

Tomorrow I will do a sort by Lancair model.
I think Pete Van Arsdale has hit the nail on the head. These are very
unforgiving airplanes. If you "get behind the airplane," as they say in
the high-performance community, it will bite you in the ass. The
several times that I have scared myself in my Lancair, it was for that
exact reason.
One big caveat about my reports: I have categorized the accidents by
what I thought the primary cause of the accident was. For example, I
categorized Shannon's accident as an engine failure. But it could be
argued that that is not what caused him to crash, but rather it was
failure to find an appropriate forced landing area. Another example
would be some of the accidents in the "landing" category. Several of
those were probably due to crosswinds, but it wasn't clear in the NTSB
write-up.
I hope this info will be useful as we continue to discuss how to more
safely fly our airplanes.
