Today I checked for control surface "dead bands" and found this:

 

1.  With the elevator clamped, the stick had almost no movement fore and aft.  After all, there are only a few (4) bearing connections.

 

2. With one aileron clamped the other was able to move thru 3/16".  Of  course, there are 12 bearing connections from one side to the other.
