You are dead-on correct. Once F:A ratios are balanced, the only differences
in CHTs are cooling issues. And, you must address them in that order...
F:A ratios first, then cooling. Getting that absolutely right still
continues to evade us in some cases. I think we are a LOT closer than
anyone else as a result of the investigation having been done
scientifically, but trust me, there are some cooling issues we still do not
have a handle on. Some cowl set-ups offer some mighty difficult problems to
solve and even at that, not all airplanes of the same type present the same
problems-much less solutions (the 210s come to mind)!
It can be maddening.
In your similar camp is the Cirrus, which basically *got it right.* Even
they missed very two significant issues. As a result, I would bet that they
didn't instrumented up one of these engines they way George did.
