It is quite a bit of extra work. I can't make a judgement call as to whether it "makes sense" or not - I only have experience flying my own plane. If speed or climb is your primary concern, there are better easier ways to do that- build it light, or do a few basic engine mods (electronic ignitions and high compression pistons).
