>>>I know some of you have had the problem of when you
transmit on a COM radio your ACK ELT trips on. I have had this problem
with my COM2 since first flight last summer and am now getting to doing
something about it....
Well, I have now moved the ELT antenna so it is
pretty close to 5' away and it still trips. I have also rerouted the
telephone cable that goes between the remote control panel and the ELT itself,
so that it is further away from the COM2 coax and antenna. Now I get
intermittent results with still >50% of COM2 transmissions setting off the
ELT!...
Do any of you have words of wisdom in resolving this ELT
situation?... Any help is appreciated....
My ACK ELT antenna is the one that came with it (metal coiled wire) and is
mounted in the center line of the fuselage behind the baggage bulkhead. It
right over the top of the Com antenna coax (RG-58). The Com antenna is in
the vertical stab. The Com antenna coax is under a copper foil ground
plane for the ELT antenna. My Com radio is a King KX-155. The
ELT cable (telephone type) is within the wire race with other electrical wires
as well as the Com coax in the center tunnel/console to the instrument
panel. The ACK ELT is vintage about 1996 to 1998.
The radio has never tripped the ELT. I have had the ELT trip
twice in the first year of operation (1999), once while taxing and once
while in the pattern. Both times were random while not in the transmit
mode.
