It's worse than that since those of us with electronic ignition systems see a lower peak EGT by 80-100 degrees.
 
I think you should talk to George Braly about 80 degrees rich of peak.  He might suggest that you are playing with adverse cylinder pressures.

PS, I put my probes in the suggested 4" from the cylinder location for "absolute" comparison purposes.
