Rob and others interested in WxWorx:
I got so frustrated with all the wires and the time to get everything
set up in the cockpit that I threw all the gear into a travel bag and
threw that in the closet. I haven't messed with it for several months!
I didn't even know V1.15 was out! I may dig out the gear, install V1.15
and try the set-up again on my trip down to Ft. Worth on Mar. 6 for the
Southwest Lancair Builders & Flyers (SWLBF) get-together.
One thing I did discover is that two programs can't share the same GPS
input. I was running WxWorx and Flitesoft Vista (moving map &
approaches) concurrently. If I had the GPS feature active in WxWorx,
Vista could not capture GPS input. If I activated GPS in Vista before
activating it in WxWorx, WxWorx could not capture GPS input. I ended up
letting Vista have the GPS and then just panning in WxWorx to keep my
route of flight visible on the T-Pad.
I think a tablet PC is the way to go, if you can find one with the right
screen brightness range. Having to hook up the T-Pad and WxWorx boxes
and the GPS to a laptop and get everything arranged and the wires
reasonably organized took me a good 15 minutes. I installed a power
outlet in the baggage area and use a 3-into-1 adapter for all the power
connections.
I'll report back after my SWLBF trip.
I have attached a wiring diagram of my WxWorx/T-Pad set up. It looks
simpler on paper that it seems in real life!
