Congratulations on the conversion.  (Didn't I say it was easy?)  Do you have it hooked to a voltage regulator?  Which one did you end up with?  Does it have a voltage adjustment feature?  Have you run it yet?

Answer to your question... What you're seeing is shrink tubing added to protect the wire as it goes into the brush holder.  I cut mine a bit longer so as to  make for a tighter fit as it goes through the grommet in the cover.  That's probably a little overkill though.

This alternator looks exactly like mine after the change!
I guess I did it right.
My only question is the wire coming from this alternator that
is to be connected to the F terminal looks bigger than the 20Gage wire
I used as per the instructions. The instructions call out #20 I assumed that
meant
20 gauge.
I need enlightenment...

Do I need a larger gauge wire here?
