Ridge,
So far, in your replies, I count 13 to 1 in favor of mounting the GPS
antenna inside. I hope this is enough to convince your skeptical avionics
guy. If it doesn't, I suggest you get another avionics guy or do it
yourself. He apparently, does not have much experience with composite
structures.
I made a couple of fiberglass brackets as shown in the attached picture and
epoxy-floxed them to the ceiling of the fuselage, just behind the roll-over
support. The antenna is attached to the brackets with 4, #6 screws. I have
never had a problem acquiring satellites after 9 years of service.
