Replaced Matco's with Grove at 50 hours. Second set of Matco's. First ones failed first 5 hours, hung up and overheated. Second set scored the inner side of the disks where it could not be seen and failed. The plane was difficult to hold at run up and finally could not hold above 1600 rpm. Stoping and taxi was poor also.
The plane has an "outback" gear so it was a bolt on fit. The whole job took less than 4 hours including mounting the tires and replacing the first 12" of brake line with hydralic hose.
Brakes never drag. In fact I am considering a parking brake. Even the slightest slope or wind the plane will roll. Pedal pressure is lower and can hold position at full, 2700 RPM. Taxi is a dream. Touch the brake and you turn. Stopping depends on tire friction. I can brake and lock the wheels but usally brake heavy and stop quick only if needed. I usally fly out of a 10,000' strip. Can get down and stopped in less than 2,000' Still learning.
I only have about 40 hours on the Groves so ai can tell you how long they will last. I am still working on landings so lots of use per hour. When it does come time to change pads they come off and go on without removing the wheel.
I considered them a very good investment.

Anyone have an opinion on the changeover from Matco (standard fitment)
wheels on Lancair 320 to Grove Model 56-3A wheels?
If anyone has made this change, how was the brake performance in terms of
effectiveness and longevity?
Thanks
