Probably enough on hi-key landing practice, but I think that fellow Lancair
owner Carl Larue and I have a corner on the strangest hi-key. We both flew the
U-2 for many years and it was, of course, a jet powered glider. As I recall,
our target hi key was only 1000'. I've made two dead stick landings, one with
a hi key of only 800' and had a hell of a time stopping on the runway. When I
transferred to the SR-71 there was no such thing as a high key/dead stick
approach as the controls froze below about 300 knots after the engines stopped
windmilling. Pat Halloran.
