Just to correct some inaccuracies:
The crash in question occurred at a well known and charted (TN98) local
airstrip which is home to a very active flying club. The MIN length of the
landing area is 2100 ft. (not 1000). The appraoch from the north (which was
the one in use for accident) has no obstructions. The cause is reported to
be engine malfunction and the aircraft did not make it to the landing
surface.

There is an uncharted 1,000 ft airport on an island near downtown
Knoxville. About a year ago a fellow from down there ask about buying a
Lancair 320 and keeping it at that airport. I and several other list
members recommended against using an airport that short for a Lancair.
