This is a follow up on the rough running engine post.
The rough running engine was due to an leak that was putting air into the fuel. The source was the seal of the "Duke" boost pump.
Once the problems was identified I pulled the pump and started looking for a place to get it rebuilt. The 1500-00-67 part number did not match up with anything any of the rebuilder could do. I even called Dukes and they could not match it up. Finally both Dukes and the rebuilder called me back and said to send it in and they would rebuild it. It turned out to be only $100 less than a new one from Lancair so I ordered a new one. Unfortunatally the new one they sent was wrong. Not there fault reallly. The box was correct but the pump in it was wrong. I did learn that the new pump has different connections then the old one. The old 1550-00-67 had 3/8 straight thread o-ring connections. The new pumps use 1/2" connections. My fuel system uses 3/8 tube and hose so the fittings from the old pump did not work. When Vern from Lancair sent the pump to replace the one in the wrong box he included the 1/2" o ring to 3/8" tube fittings.
As a heads up. If you have to buy a new pump from either Lancair or someone else make sure that you get the right fittings. The old pumps supplied by Lancair had 3/8" connections. The new pumps have 1/2" connections.
The pump went on today and the bird flew shortly afterwards. Big differnce. No rough running engine. The pump builds pressure in several seconds. It used to take about 15 sec at least. Also the engine driven pump develops better pressure now.
I know one flight does not a solution make but I thing the problem is fixed.
