I don't turn my engine over with air temps less than 30F.  The couple occasions that I did, I still saw 180F on the oil shortly after takeoff.  BTW, how do you know your vernatherm is operating correctly?
 
 
I have never seen moisture at the dipstick in my Lycoming engine (funny metal cap, brass stick and plastic filler tube).   
 
Oh, now I know what that funny metal thing is.  Thanks for the insight.
