The slot is not a big deal. LGA is a surprisingly small airport, just 2
runways. You can download an airport diagram if you don't have one. Unless
the wx is down, getting out of LGA usually takes less than 15 minutes. If
you're VFR and willing to stay low (1500 ft) for 15 miles or so, you can get
a pretty direct course out.  I believe that if you put in a little
preparation, you'll actually find that LGA can be fun as well as practical.
