A pre-oiler is after all a non flight critical item, used before engine start. If it fails, you're still on the ground. Like you, I remember Oilamatic having a lower noncertified price when I checked them out several years ago. My Glasair III (and I believe the Lancairs also) already uses an electro-hydraulic gear pump that was designed for marine use, the pre-oiler will just keep it company.
