Bill, you are right to point out the possible difference with the linkage on the MKII tail.  Perhaps it was supplied with an already shortened bellcrank arm.  The pitch performance in a small tailed LNC2 was improved by shortening the bellcrank arm from 4 inches to 3 inches - this reduced the stick throw by 25% (a benefit for the girth challenged) and increased the stick force 25% (if you can increase from zero).  Since everything is a system, note that the spring in the trim system had to be stronger also, followed by increased friction on the old time crucifix trim mechanism.  All that was solved by the Reichel geared walnut trim wheel and heavier springs.  Maybe someone with the MKII tail will respond, or pehaps they have been rendered speechless by noting the pilot skills required to maintain stable level flight in a small tailed Lancair.
