Some hairline cracks have developed as shown by the top edge of the yellow tape in the pictures. This is a 1989 small tail with 1280 hours. Lancair has beefed up this area on later models and has made suggestions as to how to make a fix.
Do you know when Lancair's beef up was made? Where can we find the suggested fix.
My best guess is they are caused by use of full rudder slips in the traffic pattern causing twisting of the tail. ...be careful using the rudder as a speed brake
You may be so fast that you need the rudder but I am pretty happy using 10* of flaps as my speed brake. This will take me from 150 kts to 120 kts in a hurry. Based on Bill Harrelson's past calculations, this doesn't cause as much pressure on the flaps as does 40* at approach speeds.

I haven't inspected my plane yet. If there are any cracks that I can see, I will report them here on the list.
