I have had a few of our Aero Supercharger customers recently call me and
tell me that Jason, the new guy at Lancair stated that a stock Legacy can
out run a Supercharged Legacy all the way to 12,000 AGL.

I believe that he has never flown a Supercharged Legacy much less made a
true evaluation between a normally aspirated Legacy and a Supercharged one.
My suggestion is that he should look at Dave Morss's flight data that was
developed flying his Legacy in a Normalized and Supercharged mode. His data
is on our web site ( aerosuperchargers.com).  Dave found that the
Supercharged version out performed the Normalized Legacy at all altitudes
and in all cruise modes. As we all know Dave does not like to waste fuel so
he flys in best economy conditions.

Like the discussions on EFIS systems one has to actually test them to make a
true comparison.

It is true that below 8,000 ft a Normally aspirated engine will slightly out
perform a Turbo or Supercharged engine because any accessory, Turbo or
Supercharger uses some HP.  A TSIO 550 or a Supercharged one requires about
32 in. of MAP to make 310 HP at sea level.  But these engines have boost
knobs that can be used at any altitude.

We now have 250 hours on our supercharger and have had Three problems.
Note:  All three failures were in race conditions with boosts over 46 in of
MAP.  One was a belt breakage.  The second was at Reno last year with bad
gas (the gas broke 6 other competitors before it was removed from the field
by the supplier).  This year I leaned a cylinder because of a loose spark
plug.  It was repaired in Three hours and as most of you know we took Second
by about 2/3rds of a fuse length.  (see Attachment)

Like Brent Regan's statement I am biased.  I designed the system and you
should not believe anything I say.

I have always supported Lancair and more specifically the Legacy and I am
disappointed that a Lancair employee would make such statements without
knowing the facts.

In order to deal with this misinformation I propose a flight test between
the factory Legacy with Jason at the controls and me in my slow Supercharged
Legacy.

I believe that my World speed record ( 346 MPH), a 3rd and a 2nd at Reno
should have said enough about the performance capabilities of our
Supercharger but Lancair and Jason do not believe.

So how about it Lancair, a duel to decide to Supercharge or not to
Supercharge?
