There is a tape available from McMaster-Carr that might be just the thing
for leading edges.

Optically Clear FEP Teflon Tape. It comes in a variety of widths. It's 2
mils thick with 1.5 mils of silicone adhesive with a service temperature
range of -100 to +400F. The basic part number is 7562A (with the remainder
of the part number defining the width).

I believe the Lancair Columbia uses something similar.
