Have had several reports that it does not hold up. However, the concept of the speckled look in the gear wells is good because it is nearly impossible to get the inside surfaces perfectly smooth and even for a show quality paint job. I suspect I spent 100 hours working on the finish in the wells and still did not feel it was good enough to clear coat.. Help is needed here to hide all the little imperfections and this is where Zolatone comes in.. And don't forget that us folks that know what to look for, look in the wells. A look in the wells is like looking into the heart of a finely built lady to read the whole story. I used Zolatone. This stuff will hold up in the gear wells and looks like trunk paint. Just be sure all the mold release that is on your inside nose gear tunnel is removed. The MethalineChloride mentioned in earlier posts will do the trick. Then spray the Zolatone in the gear wells. The stuff really makes a mess of your spray gun though. It is amazing how Zolatone and its speckled look hides all the imperfections. I've got Zolatone in my gear wells and so far it is holding up just fine. A little touch up down the road will be a piece of cake too due to its speckled look. I also ran a couple of tests on the stuff and it seemed to hold up OK with 100LL, exhaust soot, and hydraulic fluid spills all of which your gear wells will see. Zolatone was not easy to find but it is available and has a relatively short shelf life. Jim Frantz Lancair Network News
