Anyone had a burst tire and landed on the brake disc?
I was lucky last week when I noticed thing were not quite okay just as I was cleared for take-off. I aborted the run just in time because, by the time the main gear tire was flat I could no longer control the aircraft. The disk ate in to the runway surface and the other brake could not hold the aircraft against it.
My engineer has suggested I do what the high-performance glider guys do, which is to fill the tires with foam. Then if you lose pressure you do not lose the tire shape. Of course each time you change the tube/tire its a replacement. Has anyone out there tried the foam solution to this, potentially, dangerous occurrence?
I'm just back on to lancaironline having changed my email address.
All the best,
Michael
