Tom Giertz mentioned the idea of our getting together at Sun-n-Fun, and I
confess that he beat me to the punch... I've been considering it for awhile
now but didn't think it necessary to broach the subject just yet. Guess I
was wrong <g>.
Anyway, here's the deal... this year Sun-n-Fun is going on from Sunday to
Saturday, April 11 thru April 17 inclusive. The Lancair banquet is
scheduled for Monday evening, April 12, starting around 6:30 PM.
I spoke to Kim at Lancair this afternoon and learned that the real estate
around the Lancair tent will be rearranged this year, with the company's
main display tent oriented the long way (parallel to the fenceline instead
of perpendicular to it) on their usual site at showgrounds center, and
because of other nearby tents they will _not_ have room for the customary
customer mini-tent we've all come to know and love. Instead there will be
a fenced off Lancair Builders' Hospitality Area next to the main tent which
will include a number of umbrella-ed tables and chairs (and a water cooler
or two, I suspect <G>.
Seeing as how the Lancair banquet is taking place on Monday evening, I
suspect the greatest number of Lancair builders will be available on Monday
throughout the day, wanting to be around to attend the banquet.
Additionally it seems that there are always more people around at the
beginning of these shows than at the end. Given that the tent fora run
from top of the hour to top of the hour, I thought it might be appropriate
for us to plan on an LML get-together that ran for about an hour, from 1/2
past to 1/2 past, allowing folks who want to attend a forum to be able to do
so and still be able to gather with the LML gang either before or after.
Consequently I've made tentative arrangements with Lancair to have the
Lancair Builders' Hospitality Area available to us from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
on Monday, 4/12... plenty of time to get to know each other, attend our
desired fora, be undisturbed by the airshow which usually starts around
3PM, at a convenient after-lunchtime hour, and to be done in plenty of time
to get ready for the banquet. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has
strong feelings about this timeframe, either negative or positive, if for
no other reason than to find out whether or not there's a concensus that
it's either a good time or a bad time. I'm planning on attending from
Sunday thru Wednesday, and look forward to meeting as many of you there as
possible, one way or the other.
Let me know what you think.
<Marv>
(PS... the possibility of getting together after the show Sunday evening
has been forwarded, that's a good alternative as well. We could gather
on the grounds (perhaps in an empty forum tent) or get together at a
local restaurant (the first annual LML Hooters Gig??)... the possibilities
are endless......
