In response to questions about the incident on July 11th in N98PB, the following:

1. The initial event was very quick and totally unexpected.  A loud bang with and immediate rush of air at about 250Kts and +14C.
2. First reaction was to get O2 flowing and assess the damages.
3. Once the left flap damage was observed, (6" gash from six feet outboard of the fuselage from the flap main spar through the trailing edge).  It was obvious that flaps were not an option.
4. Notified ATC of the emergency and begain a gentle 500'/minute decent to a neaby airfield(Payson, AZ).
5. The wind noise was amplified by the intercom system and this was evetually recognized and turned off for primary radio via the front headset only.  ATC was then readable and a precise description of the event was relayed along with our intentions.
6. ATC had alerted Payson, uncontrolled, and we merely advised them we were decending overhead for runway 24 with a long shallow approach with slightly higher speed, 110kts.
7. There was some trim required for the added drag on the port side of the ship but it was manageable.
8. Landing was uneventful.

Initial inspection of the door seems to point towards the through bolts on the forward latch assembly as the initial failure point but until I get the entire windown out, its still a guess.  The pieces of window removed so far have been securely mated to the door skin and stiffener and chiseled and ground out.

More to follow as we get deeper in to the repair.
