Agree with your thinking on alternator sizing 100%. Seems that the trend is going more & more to all electric and being stingy with alternator sizing just doesnt seem to make good sense. Adding 10 lbs for the bigger alternator is a real good reason to go on that 10 lb diet.
My IV-P is all electric and with a 70 amp 12V alternator, I sometimes see 60+ amps max on the Vision memory.(not good)
BTW, I used the B & C 20 amp standby alternator coming back from Kansas when the main alternator, GPS, and ATI went out. It worked perfectly. (It also puts out a lot more than 20 amps).
