Subject: Spinner Back Plate Incident

After a one-hour trip from Latrobe, PA, as I was doing my post-flight checks and cleaning duties on the plane, I noticed that the spinner was no longer stationary and was moving back and forth.  Turns out that the spinner back plate broke around three of the four bolt holes.  Total engine/prop time is approximately 500 hours.

This prop/spinner combination was originally from another Lancair and it turns out that the spinner back plate did not have the re-enforcement plates.

ZR is back flying again, now with a beefed-up spinner back plate (Thanks Vern!).  I've added checking the bolt area of the spinner back plate to my preflight list.
