My thanks to everyone who answered re: my sick alternator.
The "good news" was actually from TCM. They (Joe Barton) told me that I have a "full warrenty" until 8/17/2003 and that they would replace the entire alternator plus gasket under warrenty.
This came as quite a surprise because I had been led to believe that warrenty on my engine was "history" . Being an optimist, nevertheless, I will keep my fingers crossed until the warrenty check arrives.
