AdvancedPilot teaches to "park the engine and fly the plane". With the
mixture LOP (70-100 LOP, not 300 like the one guy would have had to be
to have his engine die) and the prop pulled to set myself up on final, I
never have to worry about any shock cooling, as there is no real heat in
the cylinders....I have the engine parked in a safe place....I can
concentrate on flying.
Also, I rarely get behind the power curve on landing (C182RG, 300hp, 100
knots on final, cross at 80, land at 65, stalls at 33). I don't see the
point of operating in this area unless I'm operating out of less than
3000 feet, so I don't see that as a problem. If I have to go around,
there is more than enough power available when throttle is applied, even
in a heavy 182.....the supercharged Legacy will be much better.
I guess its all personal preference.
