Likewise, I have the Viewsonic Pen tablet with the 10" screen.  It is
the one that FlyMe (www.prophetFlyME.com 877-774-1010 kevin, president)
sells.  It was a little over 5k.  The reason its expensive is because it
comes with everything, pen tablet, GPS, keyboard, invertors, printer
(1/2 pound, 1x2x10...incredible piece), dock, dvd player, built in
Ethernet and modem and wireless, flight bag.  That's still a small portion of the cost.  The rest is made up in the
software it comes with .  It comes with a full Jepp subscription with 28
day updates to the full US for approach plates and en route charts.  The
plates come on CD's once a month and the en route charts are still
paper, for now.  It also comes with Jepp FlightDeck, JeppView, and Jepp
FlightMap IFR.  This is the whole suite from planning software that will
download weather to take with you, to en route charts both VFR and IFR,
to the plates that show you on them with the included GPS.

Very complete package.  I really like it.  I have the JeppView software
on my desktop so I can print any paper plates that I want.  I usually do
this as its easier in the 182.  When I get in the Legacy, I think I
might just use the tablet all the time.

any other options out there?<<<

FWIW, I recently bought a Fujitsu Pen tablet (Stylistic LT P-600) on
Ebay for less than $1000 (these are the ones that a number of vendors
sell for about $6K new for some reason).<<<
