I had a problem on my Lancair IV with the field breaker popping about once or
twice a flight for no apparent reason.  After much trouble shooting,
including wiring and the alternator, I found out from Vern at Lancair that B&
C had a modification for the LR-3 Regulator and that I should call them.
They explained that it was caused by the crow bar circuit sometimes detecting
noise on the voltage sense wire and interpreting it as over voltage.  They
modified the regulator free and suggested that I get the voltage sense signal
from nearby in the engine compartment to minimize the chance of noise on the
wire.  I ran a wire from the master relay to the regulator and that combined
with their modification fixed the problem.  If you run a separate wire from
the master relay IT MUST BE PROTECTED WITH A VERY SMALL INLINE FUSE.  I used
a 1/4 amp in line fuse.
