OK Marv, makes sense to me. Could you tell us what wt:wt ratio do you use?
I
assume it the same as the vol:vol ratio but I'd like conformation on that.
From the Jeffco Products website:
"100% solids, two component, epoxy laminating systems with excellent wet out, low viscosity and high strength. Easy to use 4:1 weight or volumetric mixing. Choose between fast (JEFFCO 3102), medium (JEFFCO 3103) or slow (JEFFCO 3156) systems. 100% solids. "
suggests that 100:25 is proper, but if you read down a bit further (into the tables) you'll discover that the recommended ratio by weight is 100:22, and that's what I've been using religiously for the past several years. I've never had a problem of any kind and am very satisfied with all of my layups. Mixing at 100:25 I have experienced a lingering stickiness to the external surface of layups, but I never get that with the 100:22 ratio.
BTW, I've also been using a different slow catalyst that has much higher strength numbers than that which is sold by the factory (3156), especially for larger layups, also at the 100:22 ratio by weight. Look up their #3179... 55 minute max gel time (vs 30 minutes max for 3156, a big issue in the FL heat), much lower viscosity than 3102 or 3156, so the system when mixed wets out layups a bit easier. It's great for large layups that I start to work on later in the day and can let cure all night.
Hysol ratios are all listed by weight anyway, so the 100:44.5 is correct.
