>>I have standard wing fuel bays.  Four feet seems just a little too
long<<

Tim:        I put the 4 foot VM probes in my 360 SFB wings and they fit
fine. The business end with its mount is at the bottom of the BL50 rib
and the outer end bushing is at the upper skin about an inch inboard
from the BL99.75 rib. It does go through a hole in the slosh rib, but
there is not enough open area to allow much sloshing.
One note of caution: In the manual figure 9-2 suggests centering the
fuel probes forward-aft. If you do that you won't be able to remove the
probe through the wheel well. I discovered that the hard way and had to
move the inboard mount about an inch forward. The probe now comes out
easily with no more inconvenience than having to remove the wheel well
doors.
